MLB Injury Update: Langeliers to Have Surgery, Soto and Bellinger Join Injured List
48 days agoIn a significant blow to the Oakland Athletics, catcher Shea Langeliers has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his right knee, an injury sustained while running the bases during a game against the Minnesota Twins. Langeliers has opted for surgery, effectively ending his season. The 28-year-old has been a standout performer, boasting a batting line of .263/.332/.497 with 23 home runs and 51 RBIs in 416 plate appearances.
Juan Soto of the San Diego Padres has also been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left calf strain, an issue that previously sidelined him earlier this season. The 27-year-old outfielder was removed from a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and is expected to miss at least three weeks, with a potential return not anticipated until late August or early September.
Cody Bellinger of the Chicago Cubs is facing a similar fate, having been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain after experiencing tightness while running out a double against the Philadelphia Phillies. Bellinger has also been placed on the 10-day injured list and is projected to be out for 4-6 weeks.
Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani continues to manage his left knee issue, having not pitched since July 3. Although he remains in the lineup as a designated hitter, his pitching status for the remainder of the season is uncertain, with the Dodgers likely to prioritize his health as they approach the playoffs.
In other injury news, Cincinnati Reds player Spencer Steer is set to miss significant time due to a wrist injury sustained during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Additionally, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Aaron Harrison is making progress in his recovery from forearm tightness and is expected to return to the rotation soon.
