Jack Draper Withdraws from Washington Tournament Due to Injury

Former British number one Jack Draper has withdrawn from the ATP Tour event in Washington, marking another setback in his recovery from a long-standing arm injury. The 24-year-old left-hander was set to make his return after missing Wimbledon but has been plagued by bone bruising in his serving arm for over a year.

Despite expressing optimism about his physical condition prior to the Mubadala DC Open, Draper experienced increased soreness during practice sessions, leading to his decision to withdraw. This pattern mirrors his recent experience at Wimbledon, where he withdrew just a day before his first match, despite feeling fit.

Draper, currently ranked 147th in the world, has only competed in 13 matches this season and has not participated in a major tournament since the US Open last August. He remains hopeful about competing in upcoming events in Montreal and Cincinnati before the US Open begins on August 30. However, his injury has raised concerns about his ability to regain form and compete effectively. Draper will be replaced in the Washington draw by lucky loser Mackenzie McDonald.
