Mets' Clay Holmes Makes Rehab Start for Triple-A Syracuse

Clay Holmes, a right-handed pitcher for the New York Mets, made his first rehab appearance on Thursday night with Triple-A Syracuse. The outing was part of his recovery plan as he aims to return to the major league roster.

Holmes was initially scheduled to pitch around three innings, but he completed 2.1 innings, throwing a total of 51 pitches, of which 28 were strikes. During his time on the mound, he surrendered two earned runs on three hits and issued two walks while striking out two batters.

The game started positively for Holmes, as he retired the side in order during the first inning, highlighted by back-to-back strikeouts. However, the second inning proved challenging when a leadoff double and a walk put runners on base. Despite this, he limited the damage to a single run, which came from a sacrifice fly.

In the third inning, Holmes faced further difficulties, allowing a walk followed by consecutive singles that resulted in another run. He concluded his outing with a flyout before Tobias Myers took over on the mound, successfully striking out the next two batters to prevent any additional scoring.

Following this performance, it is anticipated that Holmes will require at least one more rehab start before being activated. If he follows a standard schedule, this next appearance could occur on July 28, just ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
