Lakers Sign Arthur Kaluma to Two-Way Contract After Strong Summer League Performance

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially signed forward Arthur Kaluma to a two-way contract, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. This move comes on the heels of Kaluma's standout performances during the Summer League, where he showcased his scoring ability and overall skill set.

In seven Summer League games, Kaluma averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, shooting an impressive 55.1% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc. His breakout performance included a notable 34-point game against the Dallas Mavericks, highlighting his potential as a contributor for the Lakers.

Kaluma is not entirely new to the Lakers, having participated in last year's Summer League where he averaged 4.5 points over four games. He then spent the previous season with the South Bay Lakers, averaging 13.8 points in 40 games in the G League, shooting 54.9% from the field and 37.6% from three-point range.

To finalize Kaluma's signing, the Lakers will need to waive a current player, as they have already filled their three two-way contract spots. Among the players currently occupying those spots, Peter Suder is the most likely candidate to be released, as he did not see any action in the team's recent semifinal loss to the Golden State Warriors.

With the Lakers facing depth issues at the forward position, Kaluma could find himself with significant playing time if he continues to build on his Summer League success during training camp. Other Summer League standouts, including Cameron Carr and Adou Thiero, may also contend for roster spots as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
