Man Wei Chong and Soh Wooi Yik Exit Japan Open; Mixed Doubles Shine

At the Japan Open, Malaysia's newly formed men's doubles duo of Man Wei Chong and Soh Wooi Yik faced a tough opening round, ultimately losing to Chinese Taipei's Lee Fang Chih and Lee Fang Jen. Despite a strong start, winning the first game 23-21, the Malaysians could not maintain their momentum and fell in three games after 62 minutes of play.

The match highlighted both the potential and challenges for Wei Chong and Wooi Yik, who displayed good communication and competitive spirit, especially in the opening stages. However, Wei Chong's recent recovery from a knee injury limited his performance, which became evident as the Taiwanese pair increased their pace in the latter games.

In addition to Wei Chong and Wooi Yik's exit, Malaysia's independent men’s doubles team of Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong also lost in the first round, succumbing to Japan's eighth seeds Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi in straight games.

On a brighter note, Malaysia's mixed doubles teams found success, with Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie advancing after defeating the American duo of Chen Zhi Yi and Francesca Corbett. The Malaysians won 21-13, 22-20, and will face a tougher challenge in the next round against China's second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.

Another notable performance came from Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin, who showcased resilience by overcoming a significant deficit to defeat Japan's Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara in a thrilling match, winning 21-19, 11-21, 21-19. Their ability to recover under pressure was a highlight of the day.
