Ian Machado Garry Set to Challenge Makhachev for UFC Welterweight Title

Ian Machado Garry is poised to make history as the first Irish fighter to contend for a UFC title since Conor McGregor. He is scheduled to face Islam Makhachev for the welterweight championship at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on August 15.

The 28-year-old Garry, currently ranked first in the UFC welterweight division, aims to disrupt Makhachev's first title defense after the Russian champion secured the belt by defeating Jack Della Maddalena last year. Garry has an impressive record of 17 wins in 18 professional fights, including a victory over former champion Belal Muhammad in his last outing.

Since joining the UFC in 2021, Garry has achieved significant success, winning 10 of his 11 fights. His rise in the rankings has come after defeating notable competitors, including Carlos Prates and Michael Morales, who were also in contention for the title shot.

Makhachev, who is 34, will be looking to extend his winning streak to 17 fights, potentially breaking Anderson Silva's longstanding record. The stakes are high for both fighters as they prepare for this pivotal matchup in the welterweight division.

In the co-main event of the evening, Mackenzie Dern will defend her strawweight title against Gillian Robertson. Dern, who has secured three consecutive wins, will face Robertson, who enters the bout on a five-fight win streak.
