Wu Yize Triumphs at 2026 World Snooker Championship

In a dramatic conclusion to the 2026 World Snooker Championship, Wu Yize of China emerged victorious, defeating England's Shaun Murphy 18-17 in the final held on May 4. This victory marks Wu's place in history as the second-youngest champion at the Crucible, following Zhao Xintong's win in 2025.

Wu, 22, faced a challenging path to the final, notably overcoming Mark Allen in the semi-finals. In a tense match, Allen missed a crucial black that would have secured his victory, allowing Wu to come back and win in the deciding frame.

During the final, Wu initially took a commanding 10-7 lead after the first session. However, Murphy, 43, fought back strongly, gaining a 12-10 advantage at one point. Wu regained his composure, winning four consecutive frames to pull ahead, but Murphy continued to challenge, leveling the match multiple times before forcing a final frame.

In the decisive 35th frame, Wu sealed his victory with a composed break of 85, showcasing his skill and determination. Murphy had previously eliminated four-time champion John Higgins to reach the final, but fell short of adding to his 2005 title.
