Hamburg ‘grateful for every minute left’ with surging Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira (25)

After the Arsenal loanee scored his fifth Bundesliga goal in yesterday evening’s 1-1 draw with 1. FC Köln, Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin has lamented the fact that Fabio Vieira’s time in Germany will invariably come to a close soon. A €20m purchase option in the 25-year-old’s loan agreement shall surely prove too much for the Hanseatic city state club. It’s also doubtful Arsenal will wish to negotiate a new loan.

Another brilliant goal gives Vieira five goals and five assists in 23 appearances for Hamburger SV across all competitions. The player himself – just like his fellow Premier League loanee Luka Vuskovic – has made it clear that he very much likes his current Bundesliga club. In the case of both players, it might be possible that a German top flight side with better financial resources might be interested in purchasing them.

“That goal [today] is definitely worthy of a few more looks,” HSV head coach Merlin Polzin noted at the post-match press conference yesterday. “Fabio sometimes makes decisions that are a vast improvement on the instructions that we the coaching staff give him. He’s brilliant when it comes to taking risks. I’m happy about every minute we have with him.”

Vieira full of confidence

“That was a great goal,” Vieira himself remarked in the mixed zone last night. “I’d rank it as one of the three best ones in my entire career. The real Fabio Viera is now coming back. My confidence has grown. I’m very happy. Coming to Hamburg was a great move. It’s fantastic here.“
